At myCNAjobs we work with thousands of companies in the space to overcome the challenges of Caregiver recruitment. This gives our staff a unique vantage point to the industry. With this front row seat we’re able to see what’s going on across the country in home care recruitment. We can see who’s winning, who’s not - and most importantly - why?
We sat down with Ryan Hodgen, Training and Onboarding Manager here at myCNAjobs to answer some common questions about recruiting Caregivers and CNAs.Check out his response in the quick video below. Today’s question is:
“How are you seeing agencies respond to rising Caregiver pay?”
“That is such a big question. Part of what’s happening here is we’ve got a very small labor pool that is being competed for on all sides. Not only within home healthcare, but also from without. The restaurant industry, retail, online retail, all of these businesses and industries are competing for this pool of folks as well. So it’s very difficult, and pay is a factor. Almost a quarter of Caregivers tell us that they’re concerned they’re not making enough money to be able to stay in this field. One of the interesting responses that I heard at the end of 2017 was an office went to their clientele and told them one-to-one we’re going to be raising your rates this year in order to pass that on to our Caregivers, and continue to staff these cases with folks that you like and at the level of care you expect. In addition to that contact about the rate increase they also sent around a survey to try to get some sense about how their customers might feel about that. The response was unanimously positive in favor of passing that rate increase right along to the Caregivers, so that they can continue to be served by these folks that they have relationships with, and that they’ve come to rely on. So every office and agency is going to have to approach this a little bit differently, but I think that’s the type of reckoning that we’re looking at. Offices taking a look at their rates today, taking a look at the benefits that they’re offering Caregivers, and trying to come up with creative ways of keeping these folks in the industry and keeping them staffing cases.”
