The interview is a pivotal piece of the Caregiver recruitment process. It not only helps agencies understand if a candidate is a good fit, but it also helps Caregivers understand if that particular agency will be right for them. The latest research in home care recruitment shows it’s also important to consider the frame of the interview itself - namely the length. 14% of Caregivers report not being interested in working for a company if they feel the interview is too short or too long.
While Caregivers interview quite often and for a variety of employers, they never want to feel like a number on a resume. Interviews that are too short may give the Caregiver a “churn and burn” type view of the workplace. On the other hand, interviews that are too long may feel like their time isn’t being valued. These first impressions can alter your ability hire CNAs and Caregivers. It’s worth reflecting on your current interview process. Are you spending the necessary time to make Caregivers feel welcomed and valued? Are you spending excess time on things that seem tedious or expendable? When it comes to hiring Caregivers, even little changes can have a big impact. No matter what the length of your interview it’s best to let the Caregiver know how long they should expect to be there so they can properly plan their schedule. If the Caregivers know what to expect, they’re less likely to be left with a bad taste in their mouth.
