Caregiver Recruitment: 32% of Caregivers Interview With Another Company Every Month

When working with home care agencies across the country to improve Caregiver recruitment, one of the common struggles we hear is “I can’t keep enough caregivers on staff to fill cases.” It should come as no surprise that many Caregivers are actively interviewing with other companies. The latest research shows 32% of Caregivers interview at another company every month. This piece of data is worrisome for home care providers. How can you keep your turnover low when over a third of your workforce is shopping for new positions? How can you use this information to your advantage when recruiting Caregivers and CNAs?

The idea of Caregivers and CNAs currently on your payroll interviewing with other agencies makes some employers worried. However, the best practice is to accept this idea as a reality. Insead, view these stats as a proverbial call to action for your everyday retention strategies. Your current staff may entertain new offers, but if your benefits are competitive and your Caregivers feel appreciated, they may be hard pressed to leave. Conversely, if Caregivers at other agencies are always on the market too, they may look to find your benefits are competitive and your staff is treated well. When that happens, you can see an uptick in your overall Caregiver and CNA recruitment.

The best way to defend against an overly-competitive market is to transform your brand into a leader. The agencies who are pioneers in their market are stepping up their employment packages for 2018. Pay and benefits are being raised in order to grab the attention of CNAs and Caregivers seeking new opportunities, and employers who step-up their offering are having more success hiring Caregivers.
